On August 13, 1995, a quarter century ago today and 4 days after Jerry Garcia left this earth, thousands of Deadheads flocked to Golden Gate Park for a memorial service held in his honor. Family, Friends and band mates all paid tribute to the late guitarist, telling stories that made the crowd laugh and cry. At one point, when drummers led by by Baba Olatumji started pounding a familiar Bo Diddley beat, the tie-dyed crowd broke into a spontaneous rendition of Not Fade Away, a Dead concert staple. While the surviving band members decided not to play live, tunes from their past concerts, all selected by David Gans, host of the Grateful Dead Hour radio program, filled the air This soundboard recording captures that day in its entirety and reminds you that "if Love is real, not fade away."
