Saxondog was desperate to have game with his new French army that we decided to have a game of Swordpoint last night. We cobbled together a mix of forces and fielded about 1200 pts per side. 1350 French and 1400 Scots v 1450 Burgundians and 1400 Scots. Minis from Ken Ian Saxondog and me.
The dog marches on with 3 Genoese xbow and pavasier units leading the way with some Scots foot and ribbaulds. Then the first of his magnificent cavalry.Followed by more magnificent cavalry. I had the task of slowing him down with some mounted archers and mounted xbowmen. Which I did pretty well causing a unit of ribbaulds and a unit of xbow pavasiers to run off table. The usual Saxondog rubbish dice.
His infantry have pushed my mtd xbow back onto the hill where he was able to get all his missile troops firing on them and causing them to run for it. However my mounted archers were having ball retreating back to the camp to warn the main force of the French attack. Stopping now and then to harass the French advance.
Ian finally mobilises the Scots and they sortie from the castle. Beautifully painted by Simon Chick. My archers have retreated to the siege line and dismounted to pour some fire into Saxondog's lead unit taking a base off, hurrah for me. Ken made up some rules to cover the bowmen doing this.
Battle is joined in earnest as Ian breaks the siege line but runs into a flank attack from Brian's Burgundian Spearmen. The lead French cavalry spurs on into some counter charging Burgundian Ordnance. A massive draw.
More pics of the cavalry. Just because they look fantastic.
Of the five playing I was the only one to have not got the rules that is about to change as I liked them. Ken and Ian were the only ones to have played a game so far and that was a smaller affair. Given those restrictions the rules played well and went quickly and I enjoyed myself.
