I love using lip brushes because I have watched my mum using it since young. She says it's for hygiene reason, to not dirty the lipstick.
But I have also read that the other reason to use a lip brush is for more even pigment deposit (not over use the lipstick), and precise lip shape control. Which is why makeup artists all use lip brushes.
So these 2 reasons have really convinced me to stick to lip brushes all this while.
However, sometimes, I would still just take apply lipstick directly from the stick because I forgot to bring out my lip brush or am just plain lazy. My current brush is the long professional one from Make Up Store. But I seriously think it's spoiling after all these years. The brush shape has become a sharp point, which makes it hard to spread lipstick nicely. And I just hate how long it is. Can't fit anywhere... ...
So out I went to find foldable lip brushes. =)
(I have previously bought another 2 more push-up and out style lip brushes. But I find that too short and too flimsy for control.)
Sasa No. 101 Lip Brush Sable
Available: Sasa
Star Properties: Soft and flat-shaped brush to colour and define lips professionally and sanitarily.
Packaging
It's comes in pink aluminium, shaped really like a pencil.
I love the pink. haha, this is my new sweetie in the makeup pouch because of the colour. I was so tempted to buy the other pink brushes of the Sasa brand. But they don't look extraordinarily good to me, so I gave them a miss. (I love my Make Up Store Retractable Blush Brush so much that I somehow am just not tempted to try any other blush brush, especially if they are not retractable.)
Length
This brush also caught my attention because of the mid-length body. I can't stand those super short ones that my mum uses. They only go up to my palm length when I open. I think that a proper brush should be at least around the length of my palm to the end of my finger, when opened up. And Sasa's just nice fit this bill. (I am alright with fatter brushes like Kabuki and blush brush being short because they are fatter and don't need as much precise control.)
Bristles
Hmmm, I don't have much insight on this due to lack of brush experience. But I feel comfortable with the softness of Sasa's brush, so I guess it's good enough.
There are no funny fly-away hairs either. So pretty good quality.
Shape
The flat shape is good, and really suitable for applying lipsticks, just as they described on the packaging. =)
It was a breeze filling up my lips without over application, and to my surprise, I am able to control it such that no mistakes were made. No applying lipstick out of the line anymore. =)
(Yup, yup, I am quite bad at it. I always apply out of the line and very streaky. haha. So have to use tissue to wipe off.)
Capped-On Cover
It actually just occurred to me that the Sasa brush is a cap on, not a retractable. =( I missed this point out while buying. I thought from the look of it, it is retractable. But a bit disappointed when I opened it up.
A capped on cover means that if the brush goes out of shape, you are going to cap down the bristles, which will results in lots of flyaway hairs when you open it up again. =( That's why I am a fan of retractables. I feel that they really protect the shape well, cos even if you have a proper roll-up bag for your brushes, the bristles are probably going to fly away after countless rolls.
The only other way to keep brushes properly is in a fitting tube, and individually.
I love it: 4.5 hearts.
I just wish they would make this retractable. Then everything would be perfect. =) But I shall use this for now, and monitor if the shape will deform and cause my cap to cover the bristles down. If not, I think I will likely repurchase this when it spoils. =) Love pink!Anyway, this is my other retractable tiny lip brush. Can see the length here, it's only as long as the Majorlica Majorca Blush Case. When opened, the full length is only slight longer than the height of my palm.
That is a cheapo lip brush, and the bristles are really quite hard, with a sharp tip, and not fat enough to apply the lipstick quickly over the entire area. The sharp tip also causes streaks that cannot be mended with the same brush. I have to use the lipstick stick to rub out the streaks... ...
