On DVD/Blu Ray - The Guard - A very good little Crime-Comedy gem powered by actor Brendan Gleeson (Braveheart)- his corrupt Irish cop is one of the coolest characters I've seen in a movie in quite some time. It's a little slow going here and there, but a third act showdown and a terrific ending really left me with a smile on my face.
Don Cheadle co-stars as a "stranger in a strange land" FBI guy teaming up with Gleeson to bring down a trio of drug smugglers played by Liam Cunningham (Dog Soldiers), Mark Strong (Kick Ass) and David Wilmot- Cheadle is slightly underused, though the three villains are given a bit more depth (mostly through reflective dialogue) than one would expect from a smaller film of this nature. The movie plays out like a "headed for a showdown" Western... but set in Ireland.
